The first ever Hatch event happened in May 2008 at the Maze in Nottingham and was themed around notions of Beginnings. The performers were Annette Foster (who tap danced, turned people in to drag kings and read a prepared statement), Aystogucci (who played Balkan wind music and got the men to dance with the women), Going Nowhere (who warmed everyone up with their democratic exercise), Nathaniel J Miller (who read people bedtime stories), Ranvir Singh Dhillon (who wrapped himself in nets and explored sexual addiction) and The Polka Dots (who performed an experimental Can-Can, with accompaniment from one half of The Hellset Orchestra). There was also an impromptu appearance by The Fishman.
