Hatch: Wish You Were Here

Hatch: Wish You Were Here

Nathaniel J. Miller

In August 2008, Hatch checked into Hotel Deux for an evening of the most exciting, intriguing and curious performance-y work in Nottingham. Hatch: Wish You Were Here invited 16 artists to respond to notions of absence, longing and nostalgia for the Great British Holiday. Hotel Deux hosted a human menagerie of weird and wonderful characters for one night only the day after the Bank Holiday Monday. A live artist became a beach on the patio. A cardboard ice cream van became a Punch and Judy Show. A one-woman-band played a piano with a fork attached to her head. Hello Friends spent the night in the dining room dressing the part. The Lone Diner sat at a table for one and sang a sad, sad song. Mable’s Husbands were the hotel’s house band playing a sleazy finale of arthouse electro.
