The Gramophones

The Gramophones

Following a work-in-progress at Hatch: Across, The Gramophones are developing their new show – Ahoy! A Nottingham-based theatre company, The Gramophones are a quirky all female quintet, originally set up to explore the concept ‘Why aren’t women considered to be funny?’ All five performers come from different backgrounds and their work is stylistically diverse. They use different techniques such as clowning, experimental and interactive theatre to create comic, unusual work. They have an open, playful style, which allows for humour to emerge organically. Their work aims to be visual and striking, and to explore exciting ways of using text. They place the audience at the centre of their performances and regard them not only as voyeurs but also as players in the work, giving them an element of influence. The Gramophones are currently supported by Theatre Writing Partnership’s Crossovers scheme for new theatre makers.
